Our History



Founded in 1970, Chappell Engineering Limited operates from a purpose-built facility of approximately 1500 sqM fully enclosed by high security fencing and access gates subject to 24/7 remote security surveillance.

Recently extended to enable further expansion of its manufacturing capacity, the facility houses an extensive cross section of latest generation Mazak, Doosan and Sodick machine tools supported by a platform of material preparation, heat treatment and finishing capabilities.

In house capabilities (third party certified) include High Pressure Testing and Non-Destructive Examination and a comprehensive inspection and test facility, including two Aberlink CMM’s, material hardness and chemical composition testing.

Under the Direction of Jim Chappell, who personally has more than 50 years experience in the petro-chemical engineering sector, the Chappell Engineering team maintains direct daily contact with its customers from its dedicated customer management centre ensuring all aspects of the customer relationship are managed in a stress free manner where continuity of communication is key.

The experience and depth of the Chappell Engineering team enables customer support with design aspects relative to manufacturing ensuring specification requirements are met both efficiently and cost effectively way.

Organisation

  1970: Started Business – Blacksmithing & General Engineering

  1976: Moved to new premises in Stroud

  1986: Acquired an adjoining workshop

  1997: Acquired a second adjoining workshop and built an office block

  2011: Implemented a bespoke business management computer system focused around data management and end to end traceability

  2012: To meet increasing demand, relocated to a new facility, customised to meet increased safety, security standards and allow for future expansion

  2013: Phase 1 machine shop expansion including the purchase and installation of three new Mazak machines, and two gantry cranes

  2014: Phase 2 expansion of the machine shop to include a larger range of machinery, with the installation of two larger Mazak Machines

  2015: Phase 3 expansion of the machine shop including the installation of 3 Mazak machines, two gantry cranes, and a purpose built hydrostatic and nitrogen gas testing facility capable of 30,000 PSI

  2016 : Phase 4 expansion, extension of the gantry Cranes to cover the factory floor, Installation of two new Doosan’s CNC’s Machine’s with space made for the Brand New Mazak Variaxis i800T. Completion of Clean room facilities to increase there scope of services to include the assembly of critical service oil field assemblies.

  2017 : Installation of SAP MRP System, to enable compatibility with Customer’s MRP System.

  2020 : Phase 5 expansion: Additional extension of the facility increasing footprint by 300 square metres. Addition of x2 Sodic Wire Cutting machines, Media blasting facilities and relocation of material preparation facilities into the main building.
